On Tuesday, May 12, at 6:30 pm, the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club will be giving an historical presentation on their namesake, the Buffalo Soldiers, in the Philip Corbin Room of Klingberg Family Centers. The Buffalo Soldiers were African-American cavalry units formed by the Union Army during the American Civil War, to fight the Rebel Army of the south. The Buffalo Soldier is celebrated for service to country despite commonplace and systemic discrimination against black people throughout the nation. The group will be led by Don Jones of New Britain, a nine year veteran of the Klingberg Family Centers Board of Trustees.

According to KFC Chaplain, Rev. Jim Davis, who will be hosting this gathering, “The Buffalo Soldiers made significant contributions to our country over the years. That’s why I enjoy learning about them. Their history is truly part of Americana.”

The National Association of Buffalo Soldiers/Troopers Motorcycle Club (NABSTMC) came into existence in 1999 and has since grown to 86 chapters throughout the country.  The Hartford, CT chapter was formed in 2004. The organization is committed to serving the community through participation in various charity rides, raising funds for community organizations and promoting safe riding habits.  Additionally, one of the key objectives of each chapter is to educate the community, schools, civic groups and churches about the history and legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers of the 9th and 10th cavalry which officially came into existence in 1866 through an act of Congress.
